Data Management has become a crucial part of every Corporation’s and small Business’s infrastructure. A comprehensive Data Management Plan should define how the data will be archived and stored and who will have access to the data. These are the most import parts of a Data Plan as approximately 44% of all Data Loss is a result of Hardware Malfunctions or Failure and about 32% of Data Loss or Corruption is a result of human error. The most critical part of preventing a Data loss Disaster is implementing the proper data storage devices needed for your business needs.

Your data storage devices may include off site Cloud Storage, NAS (Network Attached Storage) data Storage, External or Internal HDD data storage or Sever Storage utilizing Raid Array Volumes. The is no one method or storage device that can prevent a data disaster. Each storage method has its pluses, minuses and limitations. The best prevention of a data loss disaster is to have current multiple backups of your data. In the event that you do have a mechanical, software failure or human error of one of your storage devices, DO NOT attempt any type of recovery, repair or Raid rebuild without a having a current and complete copy of your data. Your best course of action is to shut the Storage device down to prevent any further loss or corruption of your data. Call US Data Recovery and speak to one of our techs concerning the safest method of data recovery for your specific device. We work daily with every type of failed Storage devices.

All Internal inspections and repairs of hard drives are conducted in a Class 100 Clean Room Environment.

On average Hard Drives have an expectant life of about 5 years.  Some may last a bit longer or some may fail a lot sooner for many different reasons. There is no such thing as a permanent electronic backup of data.(this includes raid arrays and THE CLOUD).  The only secure method of data backup is multiple backups on separate devices, some of which are stored at a different location away from the primary drives. If you have any questions about data backup call one of our Techs.

If your hard drive or external hard drive fails or shows signs of failing TURN THE DRIVE OFF.  Allowing the drive to run or attempting to copy files from a failing drive will only increase your risk of corrupting or losing your data.

Common Symptoms of failing or fail hard Drive:

Beeping / Buzzing hard drive - Clicking hard drive - Black Screen - Blue Screen - Folder with ? ( Macintosh) - Missing files - Data appears but cant be accessed - Drive requesting Re formating - Smart Error - Failing Drive -  Request to run Check Disk , Fsck - Slow response to programs or files after no Virus or malware being found - hard drive reports 0 size - Hard drive or External drive boots up then shuts down. CheckDisk and Fsck indicate a problem with the drive. Theses programs correct problems with th MTF or Journaling systems and my cause data to be corrupted or lost.

Recovering Data From a failed or failing hard drive:

in order to successfully and safely recover data from a failing hard drive you must First diagnose the problem with the drive, Second use the correct data recovery hardware and software to correct the problem, Third forensically image the failing drive with a forensic imaging device designed for data recovery. Forth, recover the data from the forensic image, using the best data recovery software for the specific file format of the drive.  Forensic imaging is the sector by sector, byte by byte imaging of a hard drive.  Forensically imaging a drive for data recovery is imaging a failing drive sector by sector byte for byte using hardware and software that is capable of attempting multiple reads at various speeds of failed sector, without adding to the bad sector allocation list and is blocked from writing to the failed hard drive. Imaging software such as Nortons Ghost, Acronis imaging, R-Drive etc are designed for imaging good drive for backup or cloning.  Attempting to image a failing hard drive with this type of software can lead to further damage to data and result of shutting the drive down from reaching the maximum alloted bad sectors. We use the most advance Forensic hardware and software designed specifically for hard drive data recovery imaging and  Forensic data recovery

External Hard Drive Data Recovery - SAS External Hard Drive - SATA External Hard Drive - SSD External Drives

Unable to access your data on your external drive? Is your external drive clicking or buzzing or simply not powering up? Can you see your external drive data but are unable to open the files or read write or copy data to the external hard drive? We provide data recovery for all makes and models of External Hard drive. All external hard drives will contain one of the following major brand hard drives: Seagate, Seagate BarraCuda, Seagate FireCuda, Seagate IronWolf, Seagate SkyHawk, Western Digital, WD HGST, Seagate Samsung, Toshiba, Seagate Maxtor, Hitachi, or Fujitsu. We also provide raid data recovery for any brand of external hard drive configured is a raid array. Most external drives set in a raid array are usually configured in a striped, raid 0, array or a mirrored, raid 1 array. Data Recovery of external hard drive raid arrays are generally recovered within 12 -24 hours of receipt of the drives.

The most common external hard drive data recovery issues come from corrupted firmware modules or motor spindle seizure. Corrupted firmware generally occurs when the external drive is dropped while running or unplugging the drive before a read and write operation is completed. Spindle seizure usually occurs when the external drive is knocked over or dropped. This type of data recovery will require a Platter exchange and a clean room recovery. Either recovery case will cost our same Flat rate price. We recommend, when using an external drive, that you lay all stand up external drive flat on your desk to reduce the chance of the external drive being knocked over.

External hard drives were designed to backup data from your pc or server. By moving your data from your pc to the external drive you have made the external drive a primary data storage device, without any backup. Backing up data to multiple external drives is the only safe method of securing your data. Cloud storage of your data is another method of backup. Cloud storage should only be considered as a third backup as data can be corrupted in the upload or download transmissions.

Raid Data Recovery - Raid Hard Drive Data Recovery - Raid Array Data Recovery

Raid Hard Drive configuration RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) is the combining of two or more hard drives working in unison to gain greater levels of performance, redundant reliability, and or to create a larger hard drive volume sizes. In the past this type of configuration was generally used only by large companies. Today, many small business and home users are finding an ever increasing need for servers and mass external storage devices to store there ever expanding data needs. When multiple raid configured hard drive arrays fail, special software and hard were is needed to successfully recover your data.

We provide Worldwide Data Reconstruction for all Raid levels. If you have a raid array fail in your SAN Server, Raid Server or NAS server do NOT attempt to rebuild the array unless you have a complete backup off all the data, separate from the Failing Raid array. Attempting to do so can corrupt data if not completely loose your data.

Most Server and NAS arrays are built using drives that were from the same lot. When one drive fails there is now a high probability of other drives in the array will fail in short order.. If other drives in the array fail during the rebuilding of the array you will most likely loose your data. If you do not have a complete and current backup of your data from the array then the best choice is to power off the server and call one of our raid specialist. We have found that most of our Corporate Clients and Business Clients are relying on their raid array as to sole source of their data backup based on the redundancy of raids. This is a practice that will lead to disaster. Raid Arrays fail for many reasons as do single hard drives, CDs, and DVD,s Flash Drives and SSD Drives, Cloud storage. Protection from data loss can only be accomplished by multiple copies of the data and understanding the life expectancies of media storage devices. During the past year we have found many Raid array recovery clients with a replace hard drive from a different manufacture or model number. This is another practice that will put the drives out of step which can cause slower read and write speeds and possible lost of the array.

Raid arrays are configured in raid levels based on the performance and redundancy that is required for the application. Raid levels vary from hardware arrays and software arrays Raid Levels consist of Standard, Non Standard Raid levels.

We provide advanced raid data recovery for hard drives configured in the following raid levels: configured in Raid 0, Raid 1, Raid 1 – 0, Raid 10, Raid 3, Raid 4, Raid 5, Raid 6, ZFS Raid, Raid 5e, Raid 5ee, raid 15, Raid 6E, Raid 1.5, Raid 7, Raid-DP, Raid S, Matrix Raid, Raid-K, Raid-Z, Raidn, Linux MD 10, IBM ServeRaid 1E, unRaid, Drobo BeyondRaid, Nested Array, Hybrid Array, Raid Data Reconstruction Recovery from hard drives configured in Standard Raid Levels Raid 0, Raid 1, Raid 2, Raid 3, Raid 4, Raid 5, Raid 6. Raid Array Issues - Raid Array Recoveries

Raid array failure for most corporate users is generally a minor several hour inconvenience as they are more likely to have a disaster plan in place to deal with raid array failures. Large corporations generally have the resources to have multiple servers so that ALL their data is not concentrated on one server. They will usually have multiple up to data backups and possibly a backup server ready to go on line.

Having a raid array failure or a single drive failure is a disaster for most home users and small to medium size business users. Panic sets in as you see your entire digital life gone or your entire business shut down. What you do next can determine if this disaster turns into a Major Disaster or a Catastrophic Disaster.

Remove the server array from the network and Shut the system down. This includes an active array with just a single drive failure. Do not attempt to rebuild the array unless you have a good backup copy of all your data including the most recent files. Remove all of the drives from the array. Build a new array with new drives and start rebuilding your array from your data backup, even if the backup is old and out of date. If your raid array needs to be recovered you will already have the server and your company up and running. Once the recovered data is back you will simply be updating the array. Even if you have a complete and sound backup of the array, rebuilding using the remaining good drives may result in corrupted data, lost files or failure of other drives in the array. With most businesses, getting the company back up and running and recovering all the data is most important. Buy following the previous steps you have the server up an running in the quickest amount of time and you have the failed array secured so no other damage or data loss can occur.

I know this goes against what older IT administrations and Techs were taught. We have a combine 57 years experience building, recovery, maintaining and implementing raid arrays on servers, NAS devices, SAN Servers and DAS Servers. This is not how we were taught when it came to recovering a failed raid. Back when, we were limited to the software and hardware that was available to use for bad drives, like CheckDisk, Fsck, Spinrite, all of which are destructive programs. Destructive because they re write data on the hard drive attempting to correct errors in the MTF or Journaling systems or moving data from a bad sector to a good sector sector. With an active failed raid array, with no backup, copying the data or cherry picking the data was the only choice then attempt to add a new drive for the failing array and attempt to rebuild the array for several hours or days. How many arrays have you spent hours on a rebuild, only to have another drive go and the array fail?

Why Not copy the active data from a failing raid array or replace a failed drive and rebuild? The main reason is that when the array was first constructed at the factory or by an IT department, all the drives used in the array were the same make and model drive. All the drives were most likely purchased at the same time from the same location and most probably were all manufactured at the same time and are from the same lot. If one drive from the same lot fails, there is a very high probability that other drives will shortly fail with the same problem. At this point why the drive failed is not of concern. Your only concern at the moment is to protect the integrity of the data on the drives. If you start a rebuild and another drive fails you may corrupt or loose data on the array. The only safe course of action is to remove all the drives from the array and have each forensically imaged with forensic hardware and software designed for data recovery and having the ability to deal with bad sectors.

Bad sector failure is the second major concern when attempting to rebuild a failing array. Greater density has been gain on the hard drives by the compression of tracks and sectors to produce greater capacity on the same size platters of 20 years ago. Failing sectors are now more critical then in years past, especially when dealing with multiple drives in a raid array.
